Abstract

926,159. Portable liquid-dispensing containers and closures therefor. H. F. COX. Aug. 11, 1960, No. 27855/60. Classes 18, 66 and 125(3). A liner 34 which, when placed in a rigid container such as a milk can 90, Fig. 13, or a carton 110, Fig. 16, is filled with liquid, comprises a bag of plastics material, such as polyethylene, wherein one end is gathered up and bound round a dispensing tube 41 to form a liquid-tight seal between the bag and the tube. At Fig. 13 the can cover 98 is of standard form, but is provided with an aperture 99, through which, on inverting the can the tube 41 may pass in order to dispense the liquid, the bag itself being supported by the shoulder 94 of the can. At Fig. 16 the liner is housed within a carton 110 and in this case the top of the bag is partially sealed, the gathering about the tube 41 taking place towards one side of the bag. The carton is provided with an insert 132 having an aperture 144 through which the dispensing tube 41 passes, the tube being kept between the bottom 134 of the insert 132 and the top flaps 128, 130, 118, 120 while the liquid is transported or in storage. To dispense the liquid the carton is inverted, panel 130 is bent outwardly and the tube extracted through an aperture in the panels 118, 120. The dispensing tube 41 which is normally of flexible material is provided with a short length of rigid tubing placed either internally or externally of the former at the point where the bag is bound to the tube. A cooling cabinet is also described wherein several cartons 110 may be placed in positions ready for dispensing the liquid.
