Abstract

990,473. Squeezable containers; packaging. MERCK & CO. Inc. Sept. 14, 1961 [Sept. 23, 1960; Aug. 10, 1961], No. 33029/61. Headings B8C and B8D. A squeezable container 110 having a non- deformable base 111, a spout 117, and a deformable wall 112 is injection moulded in thermoplastic material, e.g. of the polyethylene and vinyl groups, a cap 118 being frictionally seated over the spout. The container has turned-in side portions 124 which, with a sloping end 129, aid in squeezing out the contents, Figs. 3 and 5 (not shown). The container may be filled with a medicament, e.g. a liquid, cream or ointment, by placing it in a closed chamber, its spout fitted over a hollow pin the base of which is open to the filling material. The assembly is placed under vacuum which removes air from the container 110 through the spout 117. The vacuum is released, the pressure differential forcing the filling material into the container. The cap is then applied. Alternatively, the containers are filled through the end opposite the cap which is subsequently sealed by heat and pressure.
