Abstract
924,975. Air-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Sept. 29, 1961 [Nov. 2, 1960], No. 35087/61. Class 38 (5). In an air-blast circuit-breaker in which the compressed air in a contact chamber drives the moving contact to an open position when a blast valve is opened and in which a plate carried by the moving contact engages the blast valve to reclose the valve during final opening movement of the contact, an enclosed space formed between the plate and valve on engagement thereof is connected to a separate air control pipe for communication with the open air of a compressed air supply. The circuit-breaker shown has a plate 13 and valve 5 forming an enclosed space 12 in the same manner as in the circuit-breaker disclosed in Specification 770,100, and a passage 14 in the valve 5 connects with a pipe 15 through sealing rings 16 which allow relative movement between the valve and pipe. To open the circuitbreaker pipe 8 is placed under pressure for sufficient time to open the valve 5 by means of its piston 6 and pipe 15 is at atmospheric pressure. In the circuit open position both pipes 8, 15 are at atmospheric pressure and closing is effected by applying compressed air to pipe 15. If the contacts close involuntarily owing to faulty sealing of the plate against the valve, the pressure in the pipe 15 increases and indicates the unwanted operation.
