Abstract
922,533. Thermionic valves. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 14, 1960 [April 28, 1959], No. 14488/59. Class 39 (1). In a thermionic valve in which the cathode lead extends through the upper portion of the envelope a getter is located above the electrode assembly and an electrical lead extending between a position on the inner surface of the upper portion of the envelope, where the getter deposit is produced, and earth, or a point of low potential, so as to earth the getter deposit. The getter lead reduces noise due to sparkover between the cathode lead 9 and the getter deposit 10. The getter deposit 10 is preferably connected to the cathode lead 9 but may alternatively be connected to the lead of another electrode if earthed. As shown, a conductive wire or strip 11 connects the getter deposit 10 with the cathode lead 9 and conductor strip 8 and abuts against the inner surface of the tube envelope. Wire or strip 11 is preferably resilient and is welded at its mid-point to 8, 9. In assembly the electrode assembly is pushed upwards; this causes the arms of 11 to bow and lie along the inner surface of the envelope. The getter ring 6 is shielded from the electrodes by a screen 7.
