Abstract

1,185,872. Vacuum switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 1 Jan., 1968 [25 Jan., 1967], No. 3691/67. Heading H1N. A vacuum switch having two electrodes 7, 9 within an envelope 1, has a shield arrangement formed by two tubular members 17, 19, each electrically connected to one of the electrodes and each surrounding at least the contact making surface of its associated electrode. In the switch shown, the end plates 3, 5 are of metal and an additional shield 19B is placed around the bellows 15. In a modified form, see Fig. 2 (not shown), the shield attached to the moving electrode is first bent upwards, to surround the lower part of the bellows and then continued downwards to surround the lower, contact-making tip of the moving electrode.
