Abstract

1,093,231. Vacuum switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 11, 1965 [Feb. 12, 1964], No. 5888/64. Heading H2B. In a vacuum switch having a shield 13 surrounding the contacts, the shield is supported by means which are located in position in the switch by engagement with a groove 19 provided in the inner surface of a ceramic electrically-insulating part 2 of the switch envelope and extending circumferentially around the envelope. The means may comprise a plurality of members 18 each having an end secured to the shield and an end secured to a resilient split metal ring 17 which is sprung into the groove. Glass may be fused across adjacent regions of the support means and the ceramic part which may be of porcelain.
