Abstract

1,103,619. Vacuum switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 6 Feb., 1967 [28 March, 1966], No. 5561/67. Heading H1N. One of the contacts 30 of a vacuum switch is formed from an alloy containing a small percentage of a weld-inhibiting metal to prevent contact sticking, the envelope being arranged so as to prevent contamination of the sealing welds 23, 28 by the weld-inhibiting metal. The contacts may be copper or silver, contact 30, only, containing less than 5% of bismuth or lead. The contacts 30, 40 are held by crimping in sockets in electrodes 20, 21 which are sealed to the envelope by welds 23, 28. The weld 23 is remote from both contacts; weld 28 is adjacent to the pure metal contact 40 but remote from the alloy contact 30. The envelope is fitted with metal condensing shields 50, 52, 54.
