Abstract

1329725 High-voltage switches; vacuum switches INSTITUT PRUFFELD FUR ELEKTRISCHE HOCHLEISTUNGSTECHNIK 17 Sept 1970 44440/70 Heading H1N A switch has a housing containing vacuum or a gas such as sulphur hexafluoride and in which a movable contact 15 may be moved from a closed position in which it engages one or more fixed contacts 14 to complete a load circuit, into an open position and from this open into a third position in which it engages an earthing contact 19 connected by the housing to an earthing terminal 6 mounted on the housing. As shown, the switch may be a vacuum switch with a moving bridging contact 15 co-operating with two fixed contacts 14 in the closed position and two contacts 19, in the earthing position. Alternately in a more conventional vacuum switch, the member carrying the movable contact extends through the aperture in an annular earthing contact, Fig. 1 (not shown). The contacts are preferably made of, or coated with, steel to minimize any tendency to weld.
