Abstract

1359072 High current switches AUTOMATIC SWITCH CO 2 Aug 1972 [15 Sept 1971] 36003/72 Heading H1N A high current switch comprises a first contact which includes a support member 52 and an arm 56 pivotally mounted on the support member so as to be movable towards and away from a second roller contact 25, the support member 52 or the contact 25 being movable. As shown, the arm 56 and the contact 25 are the arcing contacts of a switch having a pivoted member 29 carrying a resiliently mounted main moving contact 34 co-operating with a fixed contact 14. The arm 56 extends generally parallel to the support member 52 so that current flowing in opposite directions in the arm and member produces magnetic forces which assist in biasing the arm towards the fixed arcing contact 25. This contact 25 is a roller mounted in a frame 20 providing inclined edges 23 on which an arc can run. An arc chute or chamber may surround the arcing contacts.
