Abstract
1,080,268. Vacuum switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 20, 1965 [Nov. 18, 1964], No. 44406/65. Heading H2B. A vacuum switch has fixed electrodes 47, 48 providing contact faces in a common plane and a co-operating bridging contact 53 carried by a supporting member 63, 68 movable along an axis 52 normal to the plane. In the Fig., the contact 53 is fixed to a support frame 54, 55 and a spring 58 is interposed between this frame and the supporting member. A lost motion connection is provided between the frame and member by outwardly extending ears 70 of the supporting member and inturned portions 72 of the frame 55. This lost motion connection permits self alignment of the contacts under the bias of the spring. In another arrangement, Fig. 1 (not shown) the moving contact is annular and is resiliently carried on the support member by bellows. In both arrangements the contacts are arranged symmetrically with respect to the axis 52 so that substantially simultaneous separation of the contact pairs occurs when the switch is opened.
