Abstract

819,885. Switch contacts. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. March 25, 1958 [Jan. 7, 1957], No. 578/57. Class 38 (5). A multi-finger fixed contact assembly is spring biased towards the moving contact by a main spring 17, common to all the contact fingers and connected to a movable abutment, and subsidiary springs 26, 30 which connect the abutment with the individual contact fingers. As shown, the contact fingers 5-9 are pivoted at 10 to a casting 1 secured to the conductor stem 3. The main spring 17 is located between a disc 18 in the conductor stem and an abutment formed by a plate 19 connected by pillars 21 to a second plate 20. The abutment is connected to the casting by a pair of swinging links 22. The contact fingers 6, 8 are connected to the plate 20 by slidable rods 29 loaded by springs 30 and the contact fingers 5, 7, 9 are connected to the plate 19 by slidable rods 25 loaded by springs 26. The relative stiffness of the main and subsidiary springs is such that the subsidiary springs provide merely for the selfalignment of the contacts during closing.
