Abstract

1,171,297. Arc-preventing in switches. ALLEN-BRADLEY CO. 13 Sept., 1966 [20 Sept., 1965], No. 40884/66. Heading H1N. A switch base 2, Fig. 3, for an automatic circuit-breaker comprises one or more arc chambers 35 each containing fixed contacts 14 and which are substantially closed by an arc shield 47 on a movable carrier for the movable contacts 43. The chambers 35 are formed by the moulded casing walls 2 and barriers 27 between each contact set. The barriers 27 and other parts of the casing 2 may be formed of arc suppressing materials, such as aluminium and magnesium oxides or hydrates in a water insoluble binder. The actuating and automatic circuit breaking module attached to the base 2 is described in Specifications 1,171,298, 1,171,299 and 1,171,300.
