Abstract

1,171,299. Automatic circuit - breaker. ALLEN-BRADLEY CO. 13 Sept., 1966 [20 Sept., 1965], No. 27431/69. Divided out of 1,171,297. Heading H1N. In an automatic circuit-breaker in which a yieldingly restrained contact latch release lever arm 101, Fig. 4, is engaged by a current overload device such as a spring loaded plunger 23, Fig. 3 (not shown) of a solder pot and ratchet release device, the lever arm 101 is locked against manual reset if the contact carrier 3, Fig. 8, fails to return to the "off" position shown. The arm 101 is restrained to its operative position by a spring 104 and upon overload current actuation rotates arm 103 of a trip pin 98a to release a catch lever 96 normally holding toggle mechanism 66 of the contact actuating mechanism in its lower operative position. To prevent manual reset if the contacts are still closed (contact carrier 3 not returned) a trip lock lever 110 on the same pivot 102 as that of lever 101 drops to lock the arm 103 of latch pin 98a by engaging a projection 114, Fig. 9, under a part of the arm 103 and thereby preventing its restoration to the latched position under the action of its return spring 104. The lock lever 110 is disengaged only when the contact carrier 3 moves up to its open-circuit position (Fig. 8) and rotates the lever 110 by engagement with a depending finger 115 thereof. The actuator is then free to be manually reset by an extension arm 107 of the pivoted actuator 64 when the relevant pushbutton 87 is depressed. The toggle actuating mechanism 66 forms the subject of Divisional Specification 1,171,300.
