Abstract

1,172,729. Vacuum switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 28 March, 1968 [29 March, 1967], No. 14229/67. Heading H1N. A vacuum switch has a shield 21 with an open end surrounding the contacts and a closed end 21B held between the movable contact 17 and a bellows seal 19 and movable with the contact 17. The open end of the shield 21 faces a metal gauze screen 25 which captures particles emanating from the contacts and which is supported between an end plate 7 and a tubular insulating section 1 of the evacuated envelope. A deep groove 23 is formed between the contact 17 and shield 21 to prevent transfer of the arc to the latter.
