Abstract
565,063. Thermionic valves. LIEBMANN, G., and CATHODEON, Ltd. Jan. 6, 1943, No. 252. [Class 39 (i)] In a valve having conductors sealed through a vitreous support and connected to respectively an input electrode and an output electrode 16 within the valve, and having internal screening means 19, 20 and 24 to screen the electrode 16 and the portion of its conductor within the valve from the input electrode, the surface of said support between the input and output conductors has a conductive coating 29 thereon insulated from the electrodes and connected to the screening means. If the leads pass through a portion of the envelope rather than a separate vitreous support, a conductive coating on the envelope may be arranged between the leads in a similar manner. The coating 29 is preferably applied to both sides of the vitreous support and, while it is kept at a distance from pins 27 to maintain sufficient insulation, it is brought into contact with a pin 25 connected to the screening means. If a pumping tube extends through the base, the inner coating can be extended down the inside of the tube. The coating may be of graphite or metal applied by evaporation, sputtering, electrodeposition, or chemical means.
