Abstract

1385973 Display tubes WAGNER ELECTRIC CORP 18 April 1972 [25 Aug 1971] 17784/72 Addition to 1249935 Heading H1D The display tube of the Specification 1,249,935 is modified by providing an auxiliary electrode 17 insulated from and optically non-interfering with the anode display elements 16 and providing the filamentary cathode 18 in the form of at least first and second filaments or filament segments 18A and 18B spaced apart in a plane substantially parallel to the plane in which the said anode display elements are disposed. The anode elements 16A-16G and an optional decimal point 16H are conductive layers deposited on the inner surface of a dished support member 14 and covered with phosphor coatings. The auxiliary electrode 17 is deposited on the same surface surrounding but spaced from the anode elements, and controls the flow of electrons from the cathode which comprises two filaments 18A and 18B connected between pins 24 and 26 and the ends of a spring 23 attached to a pin 22. The filaments can be energized in series or in parallel. The auxiliary electrode may not be co-planar with the anode display elements, and the filamentary cathode may alternatively be arranged in a V or N- shaped array. The support member 14 is provided with an exhaust tube 30. A circuit for pulsing three tubes is described (Fig. 2, not shown).
