Abstract

922,191. Brake transmission apparatus. J. BROCKHOUSE & CO. Ltd. Aug. 31, 1959 [Sept. 2, 1958], No. 28083/58. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXXII] A fifth wheel coupling for a tractor and trailer (see Group XXXII), mounts an hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder 26 which may be actuated from the tractor cab to operate the trailer brakes. When the tractor and trailer are coupled the trailer is held by either of hooks 16, 17 on pivoted catches 14, 15, and a brakeoperating push-rod (not shown) on the trailer engages a pivoted plate 28 having a return spring 34. The cylinder 26 when actuated pivots a bell-crank 27 against the action of springs 29, and also pivots the plate 28 against the push-rod to operate the brakes. When the cylinder 26 is de-energized the crank 27 and the plate 28 are returned by their respective springs 29, 34 to return the push-rod and release the brakes. Specification 922,192 is referred to for a part of the coupling mechanism.
