Abstract

1,221,658. Skid brakes. H. A. MCCARTHY. 27 June, 1968 [4 July, 1967], No. 30634/67. Headings F2E and F2F. An emergency skid brake for a motor wagon comprises a metal plate 2 extending across the width of the vehicle and suspended at each end by struts 3 pivoted on the chassis. The brake is actuated by an hydraulic jack 5 connected to the middle of the plate fed from hydraulic reservoir 11 through control valve 13 which also supplies a small hydraulic jack 10 to release the latch 7. The main jack is raised and the latch reset by a hand-pump 15.
