Abstract

1,226,849. Fluid pressure brakes. G. WOOD. 9 May, 1969 [24 May, 1968], No. 24843/68. Heading F2F. A brake release device for use with the brake mechanism of a trailer road vehicle comprises an hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly of which the piston 3 is connected to the brake rod 2 and a slidable draw-bar shaft 4 on draw-bar 5 is connected to the cylinder 6, the piston having a passageway 10 obturated by a solenoid-operated needle valve 7 through which fluid can flow from one side of the piston to the other, the valve being operated by means of a switch mounted on the towing vehicle so that the brakes are not operated when the towing vehicle is reversed. In a modification a by-pass external to the cylinder is provided and is similarly controlled by a solenoid-operated valve.
