1,157,064. Hydraulic brake systems. HYDROEASE CORP. 8 March, 1968 No. 11428/68. Heading F2F. A reservoir 26, master cylinder 34 and a pressure booster cylinder 46 are all incorporated within a single cast metal housing 20 with the reservoir above the master cylinder and the booster cylinder below the master cylinder. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, when the brake pedal is actuated, brake fluid flows from the master cylinder 34 through channel 134 to the pressure booster cylinder 46. Initially, ball valve 110 is open to allow the brake fluid to flow through the interiors of pistons 70 and 88 and port 136 to the brake system. When the pressure of the brake fluid has increased to a level sufficient to overcome spring 120, both pistons are displaced to the right (as shown) and ball valve 110 then closes whereupon, due to the different effective areas of the different ends of the piston, the pressure in the right hand end of cylinder 46 is increased. Outer piston 70 then retracts providing additional pressure amplification. A bleed valve 140 is provided for the booster cylinder. For dual circuit brake systems, a single cast metal housing may contain two master cylinders having respective reservoirs and one (e.g. for the front brakes) or both master cylinders may be connected to a booster cylinder.
