Abstract

1,239,565. Anti-skid brake systems. ALFRED TEVES G.m.b.H. 21 May, 1969 [24 May, 1968], No. 25953/69. Heading F2F. A device for preventing wheel lock, when the brakes of a motor vehicle are applied, by controlling the hydraulic pressure in the brake circuit comprises a sensor 2 rotatable with a wheel of the vehicle and having an output providing a measure of the rotary deceleration of the wheel and a control unit 3 including a differentiating circuit to which the sensor output is applied, the output of the circuit being such as to trigger an electronic switch to actuate an electromagnetic valve 4 to reduce the pressure in the brake circuit before the wheel becomes locked. The unit 3 includes two differentiating circuits 6, 7, the output voltage of which, when a limiting value is exceeded triggers an electronic switch 8. Valve 4 includes a piston 11 slidable in a cylinder against a spring 13 under the influence of a moving coil magnet arrangement 14. When brake pedal 1 is actuated, the control unit 3 is energized by means of a switch 9 and fluid is fed to both sides of piston 11 and to the brake shoes via lines 16, 17, 19, 20. When the control comes into action the piston 11 is pushed in the direction A against the hydraulic pressure, the connection between lines 16, 19 being interrupted so that brake pressure cannot be increased, until the magnetic force balances the hydraulic pressure. If pressure in the hydraulic circuit is still too high, a connection between lines 18, 19 allows fluid to flow back to the reservoir. In a modification, the regulation is independent of the pedal pressure.
