Abstract

1,140,410. Vehicle braking systems. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. 28 June, 1967 [1 July, 1966], No. 29870/67. Heading F2F. In a vehicle having differently loaded rear axles, the pneumatic pressure for the brake cylinders is controlled in dependence on the load so that the pressure in the circuit for an undriven axle is less than that in the circuit for a driven axle. This prevents over-braking of the undriven axle which carries a lighter load, especially when the vehicle is not fully loaded. In the Figure, a regulating valve 5 senses the loading of the vehicle and passes a pressure of 0-6 atmospheres from a reservoir 8 to the cylinders 4 of the undriven axle 4 through a relay valve 9. The latter merely reduces the response time and does not change the pressure. The cylinders 2 of the driven axle are supplied through a valve 6 with a pressure which is half the sum of the pressure in the reservoir 8 and that from the regulating valve 5.
