Abstract
921,669. Squirrel - cage constructions. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 17, 1962 [Feb. 23, 1961], No. 6687/61. Class 35. Improved starting torque is obtained from a squirrel-cage induction motor by enclosing the end of the squirrel-cage in a body of non- magnetic electrically conducting material, e.g. aluminium, separated from laminations 2, rotor bars 4 and end ring 5 by insulating material 7. The insulating material may be the film of aluminium oxide formed when casting the body or other high temperature insulation, e.g. mica dust or synthetic material. The shape of the body may be modified so as not to impair the cooling of the rotor, Fig. 2 (not shown), or it may consist of two mating parts clamped around the end ring, Fig. 3 (not shown).
