Abstract

1,111,240. Protective arrangements. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. 13 Dec., 1966, No. 55819/66. Heading H2K. An overload protective arrangement for an apparatus, e g a three-phase motor M, comprises one or more positive temperature coefficient resistors 12 heated by the apparatus windings and a relay 10 having its operating coil in series with the resistors 12 and its contacts 9 controlling the operation of a main contactor 4, 5. The relay is normally energized by the current through the resistors 12 so as to complete at contacts 9 the circuit for the contactor coil 4, but in the event of overheating the current through the resistors falls and the relay 10 releases to cause opening of the contactor 4, 5. The relay 10 is also arranged so that in the event of short-circuiting of the resistors 12, the increased current through the relay coil causes the operation of further contacts 18. This interrupts the circuit for the relay coil so that the relay releases causing the contactor to open. The contacts 18 may be latched open when this occurs. An indicating lamp 16 and fuses 1, 11 may be provided.
