Abstract

981,575. Protective arrangements; exciting dynamos. J. G. BRUMMER, and L. M. WHITFIELD. Sept. 26, 1962 [Oct. 3, 1961], No. 36566/62. Headings H2A and H2K. A generator 10, e.g. for battery charging in a motor vehicle, is protected by a thermal switch 20 responsive to the current flowing in the generator shunt field coil 17 and interrupting this current when it reaches a predetermined value. The switch 20 may include a bi-metallic strip which is heated directly or by a heater coil 18. A further thermal switch 30 with heater coil 32 may be connected between the generator armature and the battery 16. Stepped resistors 26 with control switch 28 may be connected in the field circuit and a reverse current relay with coil 12 and contacts 14 may be connected in the armature circuit.
