Abstract
1452611 Thermal analogue electric protection CANADIAN GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 11 Oct 1973 [11 Oct 1972] 47575/73 Heading H2K A thermal analogue protective arrangement for apparatus such as a motor or transformer load 10 has resistor capacitor circuit R10, C2 representative of the thermal characteristics of the conductors and magnetic components of the apparatus and a further resistor capacitor circuit R11, C3 representative of the thermal characteristics of the other components (e.g. insulation) of the apparatus arranged so that the first circuit is fed from sensing means T1, T2, T3, D1, D2, D3, Z1, C1, R1 via transistor Q1 to provide a signal representative of the load circuit currents some of which is bled through a resistor R12 to the further circuit R11, C3 to add to the constant D.C. provided across busbars 13, 14. When the voltage on capacitor C2 reaches a voltage preset by resistor R13 it will switch on amplifier 15 to activate a coil 18 controlling a main circuit breaker 11. Capacitors C2 and C3 have series electronic switches which are controlled by an adjustable oscillator 20 to set the charging times of the capacitors. Resistors R5 to R7 with diodes D4 to D6 control operation on motor stalling at a value set by R7. An oscillator controller 21 may be added to control an electronic switch 19 when the load is switched off and thus to change the signal from the oscillator 20 in such a way that the discharge times of the capacitors C2, C3 are related to the cooling characteristics of the motor and the resetting of the amplifier 15 which is determined by feedback resistor 22 occurs at a safe temperature.
