Abstract

1,242,413. Supply and protective apparatus for electric blankets. DREAMLAND ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES Ltd. 20 March, 1969 [26 April, 1968; 17 June, 1968], Nos. 19999/68 and 28761/68. Headings H2H and H2K. An electrically heated blanket or pad comprises two heating elements 16, 17 and a transformer 13 having a primary winding 14 and a secondary winding 15, the primary winding 14 being connected to an A.C. source 11, 12 by way of a switch 22 and the contact 19 of a bimetal switch, a further switch S/5 being provided whereby in one position of this latter switch, the elements 16, 17 are connected across the A.C. source 11, 12 in series and in the other position the elements are connected in parallel across the secondary winding 15. The contact 19 is operated by a heater element 18 carrying the blanket current and a diode 21 is connected in series with the elements 16, 17 when these are connected across the source 11, 12. The elements 16, 17 are wound as a dualconcentric cable as disclosed in Specification 1,155,118 and the arrangement is such that a short circuit between the elements 16, 17 will cause a fuse 20 to rupture. The arrangement is also such that in either position of the switch S/5 the R.M.S. value of the supply current is the same.
