Abstract
1,164,826. Photo-electric relays. L. MONTAIGU. Oct. 6, 1966 [Oct. 8, 1965], No. 44790/66. Heading G1A. [Also in Division H2] An overload protective arrangement comprises a heating resistor R in the protected circuit, a high temperature co-efficient resistor CTN heated by the resistor R and connected in series with a linear resistor R1, a discharge lamp L and a device X responsive to the operation of the lamp to control the energization of a coil RP. As shown, the resistor CTN has a negative temperature co-efficient and the lamp L is connected across the resistor R1 so as to be lit when the resistor CTN is sufficiently heated by the resistor R when an excess current condition arises. The device X may be a photo-resistor, the resistance of which falls when the lamp L is lit so that the coil RP is sufficiently energized to effect the release of the contacts RP1, RP2. If the resistor CTN has a positive temperature co-efficient, the lamp L is connected across the resistor CTN, Fig. 3 (not shown).
