Abstract

[Also in Group XIII] An electrically actuated valve for discharging moisture and other foreign matter from a compressed air system comprises a chamber 15 having an inlet 11, for connection to a compressed air system, an exhaust passage 21 and a passage leading to an accumulator chamber 20. A coil 16 surrounds the chamber and a magnetic plunger 25 is provided such that in the position shown, with the coil de-energized, the plunger co-operates with a valve seat 23 to close the exhaust passage and air flows from the inlet 11 to the accumulator chamber 20 past the plunger. When the coil is energized, the plunger engages a seat 24 to close the inlet and the air with the moisture and foreign matter in the accumulator chamber 20 passes to the exhaust 21.
