Abstract

1,097,752. Electromagnetic fuel injection valves. ASSOCIATED ENGINEERING Ltd. Sept. 9, 1964 [Sept. 9, 1963], No.35495/63. Heading F1B. In an electromagnetically operated fuel injection valve, fuel pressure is used to assist valve opening. Pressurized fuel is fed through inlets 48, 49, Fig.2 and whilst solenoid valve 45 is deenergized the valve 42 is hydraulically unbalanced thereby assisting spring 47 to keep the valve in the closed position. On energizing solenoid 45 the servovalve 44 closes inlet 48 and opens outlet 50. The valve stem now moves off its seating due to the increased force acting on the underface of the enlarged upper end 42a to allow fuel injection. In another embodiment one or more fuel injection valves V1, V2, V3, Fig.3 are opened by a single electromagnetic control arrangement 27, 28 in which the spring-loaded armature 27 normally closes passage 25 when solenoid 28 is de-energized.
