Abstract

1,014,131. Fuel injection systems. RICARDO & CO. ENGINEERS (1927) Ltd. May 8, 1963 [May 9, 1962], No. 17890/62. Heading F1B. Fuel is supplied to the pressure chamber of an injector 5 through a main delivery passage 4, Fig. 1, and a restricted passage 3 in parallel therewith, the main passage 4 being held closed by valve means 12 until the fuel delivery pressure reaches a predetermined value. In Fig. 1 the passages 3, 4, are situated immediately adjacent the injector 5 and a non-return valve 15 in a by-pass 14 permits rapid release of pressure from the part of the system below valve 12 when pump delivery ceases. In Fig. 3 the main passage 22 and restricted passage 26 are provided in the body of the injector, the valve controlling opening of the main passage 22 being formed by a portion of the valve stem 20 cooperating with the port 23. In a modification the passage 22 is controlled by a ball valve which is lifted at a predetermined opening of the injection valve by a push rod actuated by the injection valve stem.
