Abstract

1,110,102. Fuel injectors. RUSTON & HORNSBY Ltd. Nov. 26, 1964 [Nov.26, 1963], No.46566/63. Heading F1B. Lifting of any injector valve 14 is clamped by a collar 24 surrounding the upper part 17 of the stem and moving in a chamber 18 fitted with leakage fuel. As the collar 24 is lifted by shoulder 16, the fuel is forced to flow through the narrow gap 27 and out through restriction 23, the flow through the latter being restricted as the collar 24 approaches the stop 21. When the valve 14 starts to return, collar 24 lifts off shoulder 16, opening passage 26 to reduce the restriction of flow of fuel back into chamber 18. In a modification collar 24 is picked up by shoulder 16 after a predetermined initial lift. In Fig. 3 collar 32 is held against the stop 30 by a spring 34 while the valve is lifting, whereby flow of fuel from the chamber 28 is restricted by the gap 36 and by grooves 35. When the valve starts to close, collar 32 moves away from the stop 30 to reduce the restriction on flow into the chamber.
