Abstract

The valve member (13) is pressed on to its seat by a rod (18) which is surrounded by a bush n19) terminating at the valve member end as a flange (20). The flange makes a seal with an annular projection (22) in the bore surrounding the valve member by means of spring pressure (21). The annular chamber formed by the rod (18) the flange (20) and the upper part of the valve unit decreasing in volume as the valve lifts from its seat acting as a hydraulic check. A restricted passage is provided as an outlet for the fuel consisting of an annular chamber formed between the rod (18) and an annular lip (24) on the bush connected by a channel (26). The valve unit is able to lift at a restricted rate to permit the start of the injection to flow to the capillary opening.
