Abstract
919,107. Lubricating. SCHMEMANN, A., [trading as DE LIMON FLUHME & CO.]. March 5, 1959 [March 20, 1958], No. 7631/59. Class 12 (3). In a lubricating device for link pins 2 or the like, comprising a lubricator body 4 housing a lubricating piston 7 terminating in a nozzle 8 which is adapted to be forced into contact with a pin 2 by lubricant under pressure entering an inlet 42, a control piston 11, located within the lubricating piston 7, blocks the passage of lubricant through a duct 25 to the nozzle 8 until the nozzle 8 has been moved into its operative position of engagement with the pin 2. The control piston 11 is engaged by a spring 12 which is stronger than a spring 10 which resists movement of the piston 7, and a central bore 27 in the control piston 11 communicates with a radial bore 26. The end of the piston 11 is acted upon by lubricant under pressure which, after causing movement of the piston 7, moves the piston 11 axially to bring bores 25, 26 into register and hence allows the flow of lubricant to the nozzle 8. In a modification, shown in Figs. 9 and 10, a lubricating head comprises a lubricating piston 7 in which are slidably disposed a control piston 11 and a supply piston 31. In the inoperative condition, the pistons are spring- pressed into the positions shown in Fig. 9. When lubricant under pressure is supplied through an inlet 42 it advances the lubricating piston 7, against the action of a spring 10, into engagement with a lubricating nipple 2. Some lubricant enters an aperture 33 in the piston 7, a recess 34 and aperture 35 in the supply piston 31 and forces the control piston 11 axially along the bore of the supply piston 31. Near the end of its stroke, piston 11 uncovers a port 36 which allows lubricant to pass through a groove 37 to the space behind the supply piston 31, thereby advancing the latter and causing lubricant from the space 46 to be ejected into the nipple 2. At the end of the stroke of the supply piston 31, it abuts a shoulder 40 in the lubricating piston 7, and a bolt portion 41, attached to the piston 11 closes the outlet 45 to the nipple 2, as shown in Fig. 10. On removal of the lubricant supply pressure, the springs 10, 12 return the pistons to their original positions shown in Fig. 9, some lubricant being trapped in the space 46 in readiness for the next ejection. The quantity of lubricant supplied may be varied by adjustment of a screw 38;
