Abstract

[Also in Division F2A] A lubricating system for intermittently supplying lubricant to a plurality of use points has several pumps 26 connected to a reservoir 136 through a filter (144) Fig.9 (not shown). Each pump has a lubricant passage 212 which receives lubricant under gravity from the reservoir. A piston 224 is provided in a cylinder to which pressurized fluid is supplied via duct 34. The piston carries a rod 226 which is movable across the lubricant passage 212. The passage has an outlet 210 aligned with the rod. The rod is urged away from the outlet by resilient means 236 but when fluid is admitted to the cylinder 248, the rod is forced into the outlet and causes the lubricant contained therein to be expelled through the non-return valve 206 and the passage 205 to a use point. The pump may be operated manually (e.g. for priming the system) by removing the cap 264 and depressing the button 262 which acts on the rod 254 to operate the pistonrod 226. The air to actuate the pumps is supplied from a device 28 Fig. 1. Air is supplied from a high-pressure source via a duct 32, and passes to the pump through a valve and the duct 34. The valve is actuated by a rod 80 which engages a cam 88. The frequency with which the pump operates depends on the shape of the cam which determines the opening of the valve. The cam 88 (and cams 86 and 90 associated with other lubricant pumps) is rotated by pulses of pressurized fluid acting on a piston 46 which acts to rotate the shaft carrying the cam. The reciprocating movement of the piston is converted to rotational movement by the pin 120 acting on the groove 118 in the sleeve 116. Rotation of the shaft is restricted to one direction by springs 122, 126.
