Abstract

860,093. Valves. FARVAL CORPORATION. July 7, 1958, No. 21736/58. Class 135. [Also in Group XXXIV] In a fluid flow distributing system, such as a lubricating system, a double-acting plunger 4 forces lubricant fed from a reservoir 9 thrcugh a non-return valve 10 through a pressure discharge line 2 containing a non-return valve 11 to a flow directing valve 1, from which it passes through a line 14 to manifolds 15, 16 containing dispensing valves, e.g. as described in U.S.A. Specification 2,016,372, having supply lines 17. When the dispensing valves have discharged a measured quantity of fluid pressure builds up in the line 14 causing the valve 1 to shut off the supply to line 14 and open a line 13 to supply pressure which acts to reset the dispensing valves, and upon further build-up of pressure in line 13 the valve 1 connects the line 2 directly to a relief line 12, which communicates with the reservoir, until the stroke of the plunger 4 is finished. The plunger 4 may be controlled remotely and manually or automatically and may be replaced by a multi-stroke pump. The flow directing valve 1 comprises a spring load three-landed piston having an axial bore 30 which opens into the reduced portion between the lands remote from an end part, to be connected to the supply line 2, and in the position shown, having a stop 26 abutting the casing and the line 2 communicating through one of the reduced portions of the piston with the line 14 leading to the dispensing valves, the line 13 being connected through the second raduced portion of the piston to the relief line 12. On pressure in the line 14 increasing, the piston is moved to the right by inlet pressure to shut off the supply to line 14 and place it in communication with the relief line 12 and to place line 13 in communication with the supply line 2, and further increase in pressure in the line 13 causes the piston to move further to the right so that supply pressure fluid is relieved into a chamber 19 in communication with the relief line 12. A non-return valve 11, being leaky, enables the valve piston to return to its initial position when the stroke of the plunger is completed. In Fig. la, not shown, a by-pass from the supply line communicates with the plunger cylinder only when the plunger is retracted to allow the return of the valve piston.
