[Also in Group XVIII] A device for delivering measured quantities of liquid or lubricant, such as grease, comprises an inlet valve 10 moved to open position by grease entering an inlet 2, a piston 24 movable by the grease against the action of a spring 26 to expel a quantity of grease from a cylinder 6 and a slidable transfer tube 15 for transferring grease that has entered on the inlet side of the piston to the cylinder 6 as the piston is returned by the spring 26. As the valve 10 opens, it seals the end of the transfer tube and moves it against the action of a smaller spring 30 until the port 13 is unmasked. Grease then flows into the cylinder 5 past holes in a stop plate 21. for the transfer tube to move the piston 24 and its sealing disc 23 to the right and a quantity of grease is expelled through an axial slot 17 in the tube 15 and through an outlet 32 in an end cap 9. When the supply pressure of the grease is released, the spring 30 returns the tube 15 to the left and the grease in the cylinder 5, being under the pressure of the larger spring 26, closes the valve 10 and opens the end of the tube 15 for transfer of the grease through the tube and its slot into the cylinder 6 ready for the next operation of the device. The quantity delivered may be decreased by fitting washers between the flange 25 of the piston and a shoulder 28.
