Abstract
1389702 Liquid spraying devices THIOKOL CORP 22 Sept 1972 [14 Feb 1972] 44029/72 Heading F1A A liquid sprayer 10 comprises a liquid container 11 on which is rotatably mounted a spray cap 13, relative rotation between container 11 and tap 13 serving to charge a pressure chamber 33 from which liquid can be discharged through a spray nozzle 19 by depressing a button 24. Container 11 comprises a fitting 42 for filling of the container with a removable plug 41 therein, a one way air inlet valve 44, a one-way valve 43 for permitting liquid flow from the container 11 to chamber 33, and a conduit 32 for conducting liquid to chamber 33. Cap 13 has a piston 9 slidably, but non-rotatably, mounted therein, a central part of the piston entering chamber 33 and cam members 29 thereof co-operating with cam recesses 30 in container 11 such that, upon rotation of cap 13 relative to container 11, cam members 29 ride up cam recesses 30, thus moving piston 9 away from container 11. Passages 38, 16 serve to lead liquid from chamber 33, via a valve 17 operated by button 24, to the nozzle 19. A spring 15 tends to urge piston 9 towards container 11. In use, the container is rotated relative to cap 13, the piston 9 thus being forced away from container 11 by the cam action so that liquid is sucked from container 11 into chamber 33. The chamber 33 is thus charged, flow back into container 11 being prevented by valve 43. Depression of button 24 pushes down valve member 20 so that an orifice 8 thereof, normally closed by seal 21, communicates with the charged chamber 33 and, due to the spring load on piston 9, said piston is forced down thus forcing liquid up passages 38, 16, through valve 17 and out through nozzle 19.
