Abstract
781,158. Grease guns. THIRION, J. Jan. 20, 1956 [May 23, 1955], No. 2082/56. Class 102(2). [Also in Group XXXIV] A grease-gun of the type wherein the grease is expelled by the action of a piston under the influence of a spring, in which the piston 2, Fig. 1, which expels the grease is loaded by the fluid liquid or gas in the enclosure to be lubricated by admission of fluid &c. via pipe 12, Fig. 2, connected to the enclosure, valve 9, and pipe 14 to the piston face opposite the face in contact with the grease. The valve 9 also controls the flow of grease from the tank through passage 10 of the valve to the outlet 7 so that when pipe 12 is connected to pipe 14 grease may flow through passage 10 and when pipe 14 is connected via the valve to pipe 15 (open to atmosphere) the flow of grease is interrupted to allow filling of the gun via the nozzle 8. A modified form of valve is shown in Fig. 10, in the gun filling position. The valve is forced open by the pressure of the grease entering opening 43 to the grease tank, pipe 14 being opened to atmosphere through pipe 15. For operation of the grease gun the valve is forced in the direction F by the spring 38, thus connecting pipe 14 to pipe 12 and allowing grease to be discharged through opening 32-32a.
