Abstract
1,118,692. Injection moulding machines. SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd. 11 Oct., 1966 [15 Oct., 1965], No. 43708/65. Heading B5A. The nozzle of an injection moulding machine has a valve pin 24 which is held in closed position during retraction of the injection ram (not shown) and during the initial part of the injection stroke, and is opened during the injection stroke by the pressure of moulding material on a shoulder 27 on the pin 24. The means for closing the nozzle pin 24 comprises a pin 29 having a spherical portion 30 for pivotal movement in a radial bore 28 in the nozzle, and connected by a Bowden cable 31 to an air cylinder 33. Air is supplied to the cylinder 33 through a valve 34 until a plunger 35 is engaged by a plunger 37 during the injection stroke. The plunger is spring mounted in a block 36 connected to the injection ram. The nozzle has four bores 12 (only one shown) for passage of moulding material.
