916,623. Pipe joints. ROHDEWALD, A., and KLAUSS, H., [trading as TORFIT-WERKE G. A. HASEKE & CO.]. March 17, 1961 [June 1, 1960], No. 9754/61. Class 99(1). In a joint for pipes of brittle material such as asbestos-cement, having smooth cylindrical ends, and comprising a socket 12 between which and the pipe ends 10, 11 are compressed radially packing rings 15, and a spacer 24 between the pipe ends, the spacer has a shoulder 25 on one side thereof for engagement between only one of the pipes and the socket. As shown, the rings 15 are provided with toothshaped, annular ribs 16, and beads 17, the latter being received in annular grooves 20 and forming therewith cavities 21, 22 so that when the pipe 11 is tilted relative to the socket the bead 17 yields into the cavities; the tilting of the pipe 10 is limited by the shoulder 25. The annular spacer 24 may be provided with individual tongue-like shoulders 25, or the shoulder may be annular and have individual spacers, arranged around the periphery thereof, or several individual spacers with shoulders may be distributed around the wall of the socket. The groove 27 in the spacer may be provided on the external surface thereof and/or the shoulder.
