Abstract
961,768. Pipe joints. R. P. NIELSEN. April 17, 1962 [April 18, 1961], No. 14893/62. Heading F2G. A method of packing an annular space in a pipe joint comprises the steps of evacuating a hollow, annular, elastic ring 10 to flatten it, inserting the ring into the annular space, and allowing air to enter the ring so that the ring expands to fill the space. In the construction shown the ring 10 is provided with a branch 12 to facilitate evacuation. The ring may be of circular cross-section or its walls may be in the form of adjoining arcs of circles constituting hollow spaces joined by narrow gaps (Fig. 5, not shown). The ring may be of caoutchouc or plastics material.
