Abstract

1,044,599. Pipe joints. RAMEN CORPORATION A.B. March 19, 1965 [March 20, 1964; May 29, 1964], No. 11914/65. Heading F2G. [Also in Division E2] . In a joint comprising opposed flanges 5, 6 having adjacent faces provided with annular grooves 7, 8 for a compressible sealing ring 9 and back faces 10, 11 which are frusto-conical for engagement by a split, clamping ring 12, the volume of the ring 9 in the free state thereof is greater than the volume of the grooves, and the flanges are forced together so that they are in close contact with each other at least outside the grooves, the compressed sealing ring completely filling the grooves 7, 8. The ring 9 may be round or square in cross-section, and the ring 12 may engage the flanges linearly by sharp or rounded edges. The grooves may be positioned so that the material of the ring 9 protrudes into the interior of the joint.
