Abstract
1,065,922. Pipe joints; joint-making packing. D.H. PERKINS. March 4, 1965 [March 20, 1964], No. 9245/65. Headings F2B and F2G. [Also in Division E1] A gasket for a spigot-and-socket pipe joint comprises a hollow, annular elastic packing member 24, the interior of which is filled with a material which, during the filling is in a liquid state and which, after the filling forms an elastomeric solid. The member 24 is provided with one or more stems for the filling operation, the stem(s) being sealed by heating and squeezing or by plugging (Fig. 7, not shown). The member 24 may be provided with a self-sealing gland through which material may be injected (Fig. 9, not shown). The filling material may comprise a poly-methane foam plastic or a poly-sulphide. The packing is also disclosed as being confined between wall-members in buildings (Figs. 1, 2 and 8, not shown).' The interior of the member can be split up into a series of separate compartments.
