805,365. Joint-making packing. AIRTRON Inc. March 22, 1955 [March 22, 1954], No. 8356/55. Class 122 (3). [Also in Group XL (b)] A gasket for use in a joint in a transmission line carrying both electrical energy and fluid pressure comprises a rubber ring 11 partly disposed within the channel 16 of a radially-opening channel section resilient sheet metal shield ring 12 that axially extends at its edges beyond the rubber ring. As applied to a joint between two microwave guide elements 20, 21, Fig. 2, the gasket is located in a groove 27 in one of the joint flanges 22, 23 from which it protrudes so that when the flanges are pulled together by bolts 26 the gasket is compressed in the groove, the rubber ring and the shield ring effecting a fluid seal and an electrical seal respectively. The shield ring may be arcuate in cross-section and may be applied to either the inner or the outer sides of the rubber ring. The gasket may be polygonal in shape.
