Abstract

914,484. Discharge tubes. RAULAND CORPORATION. Feb. 29, 1960, No. 7008/60. Class 39 (1). To reduce electrical leakage between metal components of an electron discharge device, the surface of an insulating member separating the components is provided with an adherent granular coating of magnesium oxide formed by the thermal decomposition in situ of magnesium hydroxide. In the cathode-ray tube shown, the insulating tube base 29 and the ceramic wafer 9, which spaces cathode 15 from control grid 17, are brushed or sprayed with a finely divided insoluble suspension of magnesium hydroxide which is dried before the electron gun and base 29 are sealed to the tube neck. The coatings are heated sufficiently during sealing and subsequent processing of the device to be reduced to magnesium oxide.
