Abstract
763,049. Electrophoretic deposition. RAULAND CORPORATION. Oct. 10, 1952 [Oct. 11, 1951], No. 25418/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 41. [Also in Group XI] A metal member for a cathode heater element (see Group XI) has an insulating coating applied thereto by electrophoretic deposition at 100 volts in a suspension of aluminium oxide in a mixture of water and methanol which contains small amounts of hydrated aluminium nitrate and hydrated magnesium nitrate. The member may be tungsten or tungsten-molybdenum alloy. The aluminium nitrate hydrolyses and the resulting aluminium hydroxide moves to the member and there traps aluminium oxide particles. The member is subsequently air-dried, dipped in or sprayed wtih a non- aqueous silica solution, air-dried and fired in hydrogen, an inert gas or in a vacuum at about 1710‹ C. A baking operation at 400‹ C. may precede or replace the firing operation.
