Abstract
914,164. Pallet trucks. COLLIS & SONS Ltd., J. April 27, 1959 [April 29, 1958], No. 13580/58. Class 78 (3). The lifting mechanism of a pallet truck comprises a pump 8, 9 and ram 10, 11 arranged coaxially with the king post 6 of the steering- wheel or wheels 5. The pump is actuated by oscillating the steering handle 18 about pivot 17, and a spring 30 is provided to urge the handle into its vertical position where it is locked by a pedal-released latch 31. A valve 13 is movable by a pedal 21 into positions where it permits fluid to be pumped from or returned to reservoir 15, or to a blocking position where it locks the ram. An upright 38 on the tines (not shown) is pivoted at 37 to the piston-rod 11<SP>1</SP>, and is connected to a stationary part of the lifting mechanism by a bell-crank arm 40, the other arm 42 of which is connected by rods 43 to retractible wheels (not shown) at the free ends of the tines. An abutment 27<SP>1</SP> on the upright 38 slides on a rod 27 provided with an adjustable stop 28 which, when engaged by abutment 27<SP>1</SP>, raises rod 27 and thereby operates valve 13 to cut off the supply of fluid to the ram.
