Reverse flowcleaning of sheet gas filter medium 3, Fig. 1, reinforced by metal gauze 6, Fig. 5 (not shown), and supported zig-zag fashion by vertical posts 2 within a casing 1 so as to-divide the casing into a dust-laden gas chamber 4 having an inlet 12, Pig. 3, and into a clean gas chamber 11 having an outlet 15 and walls 10 formed by fixed non-porous spreaders spaced from the medium 3 is effected by ntr oducing air through a divergent inlet 14 into the clean gas chambers 11. The reverse airflow .inlet may comprise a plurality of spaced nozzles the flow through which may be continuous or intermittent.
