977,881. Filters. BUELL Ltd. Oct. 29, 1963 [Nov. 6, 1962], No. 41950/62. Heading B1T. A dust collector for cleaning dust-laden gases comprises a battery of filter tubes 5 within a casing 1 which has an inlet 12 for the dust-laden gas allowing it to pass to and inwards through the walls of the filter tubes 5, each of which has one end connected to a support plate 4 provided with a series of ports, one communicating with the interior of each tube 5 to form outlets for the cleaned gas, and a rotary arm 15 which has a gas supply opening connected to a gas supply duct 16 and which sweeps round the support plate 4 so that the opening registers with each port in turn, the duct 16 being supplied with a gas at a pulsating pressure so that as the arm 15 rotates, gas is periodically blown back through the tubes 5 in turn to remove dust which has collected on the outside of the tubes, the tubes being agitated by the pulsating pressure to facilitate the dust removal. The tubes 5 may be of canvas and be stiffened by circumferential stiffening rings 9 at intervals along their length, being held straight by weights 10 at their bottom ends. Preferably, the frequency of the pulsations in the gas supply pressure through the pipe 16 is equal or nearly so to the natural resonant frequency of the gas columns in the tubes 5. A fan 14 in the roof of the casing 1 draws the dust-laden gas through the tubes 5 and the clean gas through an outlet duct 13.
